4 Ways to Save Water TODAY!

Water conservation has been an issue since the early 2010s. With the recent drought in Chennai, the urgency of the situation is only highlighted!

But we often wonder, what can we do as private citizens? How can small actions we take help in making a big impact? Here is a list of small lifestyle changes we can make to use water judiciously -

1. Bucket Baths - Showers can use anything between 6 and 45 litres per minute. Switching to bucket baths can not only reduce the volume of water consumed, but also the time taken to shower. Besides, you can use the extra water for flushing the toilet or watering your plants.

2. Turn off the tap while Brushing - Turning off the tap after wetting your brush, until it's time to rinse, can save at least 1 litre of water. You can save all that water by literally preventing it from going down the drain!

3. Use the Washing Machine at Full Load - We consume multiple litres of water every time we run the machine. Hence multiple small loads, half-full loads and quick washes consume unnecessary amounts of water. Combining multiple clothes, until it reaches a full load, and then using the washing machine, can help save electricity as well as water.

4. Water your plants by Hand - Watering your plants by hand helps you control the amount of water used. Automatic irrigation systems use at least 30% more water as compared to a water hose.

Every small step we take can have an impact. With every increase in the number of citizens who undertake these small lifestyle changes, we contribute to making a bigger, better and more profound impact.
